With the Ohio Department of Education's career clusters in mind, we have scheduled lunchtime visits from the following businesses on the listed dates.  This will be a great opportunity for students to ask questions and learn about different career paths.

NCAA Guidelines

All student athletes wishing to compete in Division I or II athletics during their freshman year in college must register with the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse during their senior year. Registration should be done on-line at www.ncaa.org/student-athletes/future/eligibility-center. The athletic director is also available to help students and parents with this process. It is your obligation to schedule appropriate classes leading to athletic eligibility and to pass those classes. Also, please fill out a form to release your grades and scores to college athletic departments, and return to the guidance secretary. College entrance test scores should be sent to the college or university directly from the testing company.

College Information

Campus Visitations

Probably the most important source of information when selecting a college is the college itself. You should plan to visit as many colleges as possible. An excellent time to visit is during summer vacation. Many colleges are in session during this time and you will be able to get a realistic view of the college as well as the opportunity to talk with students and professors. Arrangements can be made by calling the admissions office. It is suggested that you make a list of any questions that you want answered. Juniors and Seniors are permitted four visitation days each school year to post-high school educational institutions on days that Dover schools are in session. Students are encouraged to visit on Saturdays and during vacations.

College Applications

College application forms are starting to arrive from various schools, but almost all are available online. Please check in the Counseling Office or the college's website for more information. Don't procrastinate — many colleges and universities have early deadlines for admissions. You will need to bring your completed applications, along with your check and stamped envelope to the guidance secretary in order to have your transcripts sent to the college or university.

College Prep Curriculum

Do you meet the entrance requirements for most colleges and universities? Most schools require you to have successfully completed 4 credits of English, 4 credits each of math, science, and social studies, 2 credits of a foreign language, and 1 credit of fine arts (art, music, speech, theater). A business/technology credit is often required, also. Deficiencies in any of these areas may result in required remedial coursework, delayed admission, or rejection.

Military Recruiters

Recruiters from various branches of the military will visit DHS and occasionally set up displays. If you are interested in meeting with a recruiter to learn more about careers through the military, please make arrangements in the Guidance Office. If you are interested in an ROTC scholarship or if you are a junior considering an appointment to a military academy, you should begin planning now.
