Dover Schools Responsible Restart 2020 Information

NEW INFORMATION!

DOVER CITY SCHOOLS (K-8 ONLY) WILL RESUME A1: FACE-TO-FACE LEARNING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 25.

STUDENTS AT DOVER HS (9-12) WILL REMAIN IN A2: MODIFIED/HYBRID UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

ANNOUNCEMENT:  TUESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2021

For students in grades K-8 only, Dover City Schools will resume classes in A1: Face-to-Face Learning beginning Monday, January 25.   Due to the current number of positive cases and students quarantined at the high school, we will continue in A2: Modified Face-to-Face at Dover High School only until further notice.

A return to daily face-to-face instruction is a priority for all students; however, there may be times we still face staff shortages this year. In this case, we plan to use Remote Learning only in those classrooms or grade levels, which will allow the rest of the students to attend school daily. We know this is not ideal and requires flexibility on the part of all; however, we want to be in session face-to-face for as many students as possible as often as possible. Principals, school nurses, and/or teachers will communicate directly with those students’ families if this is necessary.

Further details are available in the letter to parents from Superintendent Birney available below.

DOVER CITY SCHOOLS WILL RESUME A2: MODIFIED/HYBRID LEARNING ON MONDAY, JANUARY 11

ANNOUNCEMENT:  WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2021

Dover City Schools will resume classes in A2: Modified/Hybrid Learning beginning Monday, January 11, for all students in grades PK-12. This change will be effective through Friday, January 22.

Our goal, at this time, is to return to A1: Face-to-Face Instruction for all students on Monday, January 25.  Recognizing that this situation is ever-changing, we feel that, unless there are significant changes between now and then, the change in the state quarantine guidance in classroom settings will, with some modifications to our procedures, allow us an opportunity to resume full in-person instruction at that time.

Further details are available in the letter to parents from Superintendent Birney available below.

RESPONSE TO TUSCARAWAS COUNTY CHANGE IN OHIO PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY SYSTEM

ANNOUNCEMENT:  FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2020

Tuscarawas County moved from Yellow to Orange in the Ohio Public Health Advisory System on 9/24/2020. Our plan provides the option of A1 (face-to-face with health protocols) OR A2 (modified/hybrid face-to-face) when in Orange.  At this time, we will be staying in A1: Face-to-Face Instruction.  As of this announcement, we have no reported active cases within this district.  We will continue to work with local and state health agencies and monitor the situation with each weekly report.

As a reminder, this state report is updated/announced each Thursday afternoon. In most situations, we will make the announcement re. any status changes on Friday morning, and the status changes would begin the following Monday.  While we know we must continue to be prepared for all three learning options/scenarios this school year, we are pleased to be able to stay in A1 at this time. Thank you to all of our students, parents,  and families who are working so hard to follow the health and safety protocols in place.

Dover City Schools Responsible Restart Plan

Please click below for the detailed Responsible Restart documents approved at the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, August 10.
Dover Schools has worked with the Tuscarawas County Health Dept and the Ohio Dept of Health for the safety of our students and staff. This plan reflects the most up-to-date health and safety information and protocols available at this time.
HB 164 (June 2020) indicates that each qualifying public school governing body must adopt a plan to provide instruction using a remote learning model for the 2020-2021 school year.
Click below for a link to a summary of the district's plan.

This plan was discussed at the Board of Education Meeting on Monday, July 13, and approved at the Board Meeting on  Wednesday, July 21. Our Responsible Restart Document provides the answers to some of the questions we often receive.

We should all expect conditions to fluctuate throughout the school year. We encourage families choosing the Face-to-Face Option to plan for all scenarios (A1-A3). At this time and in cooperation with the Tuscarawas County Health Department, we are operating in A1: Face-to-Face Learning.
