Student-Paced
Students work at their own pace when using Odysseyware. The teacher and system will generate assignment due dates, but students can work ahead as they are ready to do so. If they need more time for an activity, with collaboration with their teacher, they can take the time they need. Due dates are guidelines to ensure timely completion and do not hinder student pace. In 2020-21, content will be aligned with similar courses offered face-to-face at Dover Middle School and Dover High School to allow students to transition back into the classroom or vice versa seamlessly at the January semester break if so desired.
Mastery-Based
“Mastery-based” means the student must show they understand one concept before moving to the next. This approach prevents learning gaps and ensures thorough learning. In practical terms, a student has to achieve a 70% on one task before they can move on to the next.
Teachers will customize this process as needed. For example, if they would like their student to move past an activity, they can enable the student to do so. This prevents a student from becoming frustrated and “stuck” on one item.
Teacher-Interactive
Odysseyware provides many opportunities for teachers to see student work. There are teacher-graded questions in every lesson. Also, if a student needs help or has a question, they can message the teacher from the page on which they are working. When the teacher receives the message, they can see exactly what the student is working on and where they are struggling or need help. This efficient process keeps the student moving forward and keeps learning authentic.
Grades
Dover teachers will assign grades each nine weeks and grades will be visible in Progress Book to support parent communication. Students are eligible for DMS and DHS Honor Roll, Merit Roll, and Scholar Athlete recognition based on their quarterly GPAs. GPA is calculated like all DMS and DHS classes and used to determine athletic eligibility, as well.
