Back to School Opening Day Information
Dover City Schools will open the 2018-2019 School Year On Tuesday, August 21st.

Classes at the high school will begin at 7:45 a.m. with dismissal at 2:35 p.m.

Middle School classes will start at 7:50 a.m. and dismiss at 2:30 p.m.  Dover Avenue, East, and
South Elementary will start at 8:50 a.m. and dismiss at 3:30 p.m.

Bus routes will be posted on our website and/or the doors at the (and library windows) high school,
middle school, and elementary buildings on Monday, August 13. The bus from Dover High School to
Buckeye Career Center will leave at 7:25 a.m. The bus from Dover High School to Tuscarawas Central
Catholic Junior/Senior High will leave at 7:25 a.m. Dover Middle School students who walk to Dover
High School to get a bus to the Middle School should be at the High School by 7:15
a.m.  Bus routes and bus numbers are subject to change.

During the school year students in the elementary grades may purchase a standard lunch for $2.25.
Lunch is $2.50-$3.00, plus an ala carte line for students in grades 6 -12. Breakfast will be
available at all buildings for $1.00. Families who qualify may participate in the free lunch
program or obtain a reduced price lunch for $.40, and breakfast for $.30. Applications are
available on-line through the Dover Schools website.

Supply Fees are $25.00 for grades K-5, and $50.00 for grades 6-8. Supply Fees for grades 9-12 are
determined by the classes taken each semester.

All families new to Dover should go to the Dover Schools website, www.dovertornadoes.com and click
on the Parents tab to enroll their students. Families with returning students will need to update
annual student information forms after they receive their instruction letter in the mail.

Class lists for pre-school through 5th  grades will be posted on the main entrance doors at each
building Friday, August 17, after 4:30 p.m.

The elementary schools will hold a “Meet the Teacher” night for parents and students as follows:
Dover Avenue Elementary – Grades 1-5, Monday, August 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Kindergarten, Monday, August 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
East Elementary – Grades 1-5, Monday, August 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Kindergarten, Monday, August 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
South Elementary – Grades 1-5, Monday, August 20, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Kindergarten, Monday, August 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Dover Middle School – Grade 6 Orientation, Tuesday, August 14, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Dover High School – Grades 9-12 Freshmen and new student orientation, Tuesday, August 14,
8:00-10:00 a.m. and 12:00-2:00 p.m. These sessions are for students only. Families are welcome to
attend the “Back to School” night on August 22.

The district urges all parents to attend to meet their child’s teacher.

Dover  Middle  School  “Back  to  School  Fair”  for  all  grade  6-8  parents/students  will  be  
held Tuesday, August 14th, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. This will be our first annual Back to School Fair
event. We hope this event provides a fun/welcoming environment to meet the DMS teachers, receive
important school information, try out locker assignments, learn about the resources available via
local agencies, and much, much more! Student schedule assignments will be mailed to parents prior
to this event.

Dover High School will sponsor a “Back to School” night Wednesday, August 22nd, from 6:30- 8:00
p.m.  Parents, with or without students will walk the schedule and receive the expectations,


contact  information  and  curriculum  highlights  for  the  year.   High  School  Freshman  and  
new student orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 14th, in the high school auditorium.
Letters have been mailed to parents/students with their time. The orientation will include a tour
of the building  and  information  regarding  high  school  clubs  and  activities  will  be  
distributed.  All freshmen  and  new  students  will  receive  their  schedules  at  orientation.  
All  returning  students’ schedules will be mailed.
