Athletic Hall of Fame Information and Recommendation Form



PURPOSE:

  • Recognize those who have made significant contributions in furthering the proud athletic heritage and tradition of Dover High School.

  • The Dover High School Athletic Hall of Fame will be facilitated by the Dover City Schools Athletic Director with the Dover Tornado Club acting as the fiscal agent.  All expenses will be assumed by the Club and all income retained by the Club as a line item dedicated to the Dover Athletic Hall of Fame.


ELIGIBILITY:

The Dover High School Athletic Hall of Fame will recognize the following groups:

  • DHS Graduates for their athletic achievements while a student at DHS and/or athletic achievements/accomplishments after graduation from DHS (i.e. collegiate, professional, etc.)

  • DHS Alumni who coached at the high school, college, or professional level

  • DHS Coaches who may or may not be alumni of Dover Schools

  • Contributors to the athletic programs of Dover High School, whether alumni or not.

Additional eligibility criteria for alumni requires candidate to have been out of school for ten years or longer.  Individuals currently coaching at Dover are not eligible for consideration under the criteria of “Coaches.”


NOMINATION and SELECTION:

Recommendation of Candidates for Consideration

Recommendation forms will be available in the Dover HS Athletic Office, as well as on the district website.  Anyone can be recommended for Hall of Fame consideration by the general public based on the eligibility criteria outlined above.  Recommendations will result in a candidate’s referral to the Nomination Committee, as described below. With the exception of 2018, nominations must be received no later than May 1 of each year.


Nomination Committee Process

After nominations from the general public have been received, the first step will be a referral of all submissions to the Nominating Committee.  This Nominating Committee will review all submissions and forward no more ten individual nominees and two teams to the Selection Committee no later than June 1 of each year.  

Selection Committee Process

In this second phase of the process, the Selection Committee will select no more than seven and no less than five individuals, and with the exception of 2018, no more than one team.


INDUCTION:

All candidates recommended for consideration will be notified of the selections no later later than July 1 of each year.  The Hall of Fame Banquet will be held annually on the Thursday before the Homecoming football game.  Inductees and/or their families will also be introduced at the Homecoming game on Friday and invited to attend the Dover Education Foundation annual event following the Homecoming game.


COMMITTEE MAKE-UP

Nomination Committee:

  • The nominating committee (not to exceed 7 members), serving two year terms starting in January of even number years will initially be established through a search conducted by the Athletic Director with the assistance of Mr. Jim Heller and Mr. Kevin Keffer.   Thereafter the nominating committee will vote on new members joining the committee.

  • All members must be present and nominees must receive a 70% or higher vote to be “nominated”.

  • To elect new members to the “nominating committee”, all new/replacement members must receive a 70% or higher vote to be elected into the “nominating committee” and all current members must be present to vote.

  • The nomination committee will review all nominations and forward no more 10 individual nominees and two teams to the selection committee no later than June 1 of each year.  


DHS Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee (five voting member):

  • DHS Athletic Director (non-voting member, committee facilitator/secretary) Dover Tornado Club President

  • Dover Mothers Club President

  • Dover Education Foundation President

  • President of the Board of Education or his appointee

  • One community member unanimously approved by the above committee members (2 year term)




Selection:

  • Committee will review and qualify all nominations by confirming achievements (may request input from the nominating committee members), reviewing character history, considering any other contributing information

  • The nominating committee will select candidates for the selection committee to ultimately select the inductees for each year’s HOF induction class

  • Inductees (or their family in the event of a deceased inductee) will be notified by mid July of their selection


Recognition:

  • A digital Kiosk located on Dover City Schools property will be the official site and archives of the Dover Athletic Hall of Fame.

  • An individual award and recognition in the Kioske will be finalized by selection committee.

  • The Hall of Fame Induction may be held off-site and will be paid through the Tornado Club - Hall of Fame account.

  • Individual nomination applications are valid for a three year period.  After this time has expired, the candidate's name may be resubmitted on a new application form.

  • Team nomination applications are valid for a three year period.  After this time has expired, the candidate's name may be resubmitted on a new application form.

Nominees selected for induction into the Hall of Fame or their contact person, will be notified by July 15th in the year of their induction .
